Losing Mr Richard Rivon

We have lost another cowboy in 2011 and another Bill Pickett Trail Rider recipient, the second one this year.

A few months ago we lost 87 year old "Red Rooster". Until a couple of months prior to his death he was still riding his horse Zydeco Bill with attending trail rides and rodeos. Rooster loved life...he loved being a cowboy and he loved his music. He would play his harmonica while the bands played. He helped the Bill Pickett Trail Riders at every event. He would say "Cynthia I got this." I said Rooster thanks.

We lost another cowboy this week Mr. Richard Rivon owner of ABC Rivon's Arena. The place where cowboys could be cowboys regardless if the trail ride or competed in rodeo. Mr. Rivon respected them all. He was a promoter for rodeos and was the venue owner for rodeos and trail rides. He would run the club on weekends where the locals could come and listen to music and sit and chat about life. He helped so many children and changed some many lives.

Both were recipients of the Bill Pickett Trail Riders Living Legend award. We give this award annually to thank the ones who have made a difference in the rodeo and trail ride arenas. We want to give the roses while people can smell them.

So until we meet again in Heaven fields traveling down God's dirt roads of gold you will be missed. WE love the both of you. Happy Trails!

Traveling down dirt roads

The BPTR rans the roads this pass weekend. Thanks for the love you guys we had a great time in Lufin, Montgomery and Opelousas.

This weekend we will be partying with Stone Cold in Sandy Point, TX then heading to a Border2Border event in Port Allen, LA with Lock N Load.

On Saturday, June 11 at our 7th Annual event we will be hosting HIV/AIDS private testing. Also, there will be educational material for everyone. Come out and get tested.

On Sunday, June 12 it is our Ridin N Red Day at the rodeo. We are asking everyone to wear "red" for HIV/AIDS and Heart Healthy awareness. Red ribbons will be distributed throughout the weekend for the awareness.

Send in any topics you would like to discuss or for us to provide little known facts. Example: Who was Bill Pickett? What are the stats for HIV/AIDS amongst African Americans? We want to hear from you!

Welcome to our new blog! We are so excited to bring you events, news, history and updates in the trail riding, rodeo and music world.

We will post our blog twice a week for now and as it grows possibly daily. Please feel free to share your comments and topics of interest.

In the meantime, this weekend join us in Lufkin on Friday for Street Sweepaz Trail Ride at the Luf-Tex Barn. Then travel with us to Montgomery, TX for Acres Homes Riding & Roping Trial Ride. Sunday we will be heading eat to Leonville, LA for Kountry Bunnies Trail Ride. Then closing our day at the Zydeco Extravanganza at Evangeline Downs Casino.

So who will be following us down the road???? ROAD CALL!
